Robin Hood
Review by Sam
⭐⭐⭐⭐
The magic of Panto has been shot from a bow and arrow and hit the bullseye of Wimbledon, featuring some of the biggest names in show business for a festive family Christmas adventure.
Ed Curtis directs Robin and his Merry Men in a whimsical and joyous journey through Sherwood Forrest featuring all the characters we know and love in a show which quite literally has it all. Harry Michaels script is razor sharp with additional material added by the wizardly wit of Pete Firman. The jokes come thick and fast, and whilst aimed at audiences of all ages, there is the perfect ammount of adult innuendos sprinkled throughout to ensure even the biggest of kids have a hillarious night out as well.
Unlike other pantos on the circuit, the true beauty of this production lies in its diversity (pun very much intended), and its ability to entertain on every level. Ashley Banjo and Diversity are standout performers, impressing with immaculate and precise choreography combined with their trademark powerful music and sound effects. Pete Firman adds a magical flair to proceedings, with tricks that dazzle and amaze, combined with audience patter that will have you howling with laughter. The combination of both elements with the further addition of a truly spectacular ensemble, set and costume design, make for a pantomime that is one of the most rounded and entertaining festive shows on the circuit this year.
As with every panto, there is the inevitable of actors breaking character and laughing, but the beauty of Diversity staring in this production allows the inevitable to become a guarantee, as their brotherly banter is on full display as they try to make eachother laugh consistantly. They steal the show as they utterly charm audiences through their incredible dance, laughter and performances. Perri Kiely shines in particular as he shows off his hillarious comic timing.
Robin Hood is truly a magical delight for all the family containing something for everyone. Catch Ashley Banjo, Diversity and the cast of Robin Hood at the New Wimbledon Theatre until 4th Jan 2026 before the Sheriff of Nottingham shuts them down!
