The Producers

Review by Noah

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

Returning to the West End after a critically acclaimed sell-out run at the Menier Chocolate Factory, The Producers is, perhaps unintentionally, a huge hit!

Max Bialystock (Andy Nyman), a washed-up Broadway producer is seemingly down and out, until the clever Leo Bloom (Marc Antolin), an accountant with dreams of his own, walks into his life. Together, they plot the biggest, most ambitious show Broadway has ever seen- for all the wrong reasons!

Mel Brooks' magnificent musical still hits all the right notes in this laugh-a-minute revival. From hilarious one-liners to camp choreography, courtesy of Lorin Latarro, Patrick Marber's dazzling new production bursts at the seams with star quality on the upgraded larger stage of the Garrick Theatre. He fills the space with over-the-top costumes and dazzling dancing, all of which impress before sending audiences into a frenzy of laughter, to deliver a perfect theatrical night out.

A top show isn't complete without its cast- and Andy Nyman spearheads a talent-filled company, particularly shown in his rendition of "Betrayed", which notably has one of the biggest meta-laughs of the entire production. Matching his impressive theatrical energy is Marc Antolin, who perfectly pairs with Nyman's chaotic nature whilst also displaying his impressive tap skills in the showstopping Act 1 number "I Wanna Be A Prodcuer". Special mentions must also go to the comedic duo of Trevor Ashley and Raj Ghatak, who keep the audience laughing throughout with their exceptional wit and excellent comic timing.

The silliest show on the West End is back after too long of an absence. If you're in need of a laugh or need reminding of the steps to "Der Guten Tag Hop-Clop" then this is the show for you. From singing pigeons to the German Ethel Merman, The Producers has it all and is a production not to miss... Just remember, no refunds!
