Christmas Carol Goes Wrong

Review by Noah

⭐⭐⭐⭐

The Cornley Drama Society are back again, this time trying their hand at the well-known story of A Christmas Carol. Surely they can't get this one wrong as well...

A stingy Ebenezer Scrooge (Daniel Fraser) has never enjoyed the festivities of Christmas, and this year seems to be no exception. That is until the ghosts of Christmas past, present and yet-to-come pay him a visit. A re-telling of the classic festive novel, albeit with a couple of re-writes.

A whole host of Mischief alumni make up the charismatic and comical cast, including Henry Lewis and Jonathan Sayer who, as ever, have written a show that embodies the true spirit of (christmas &) the company, executed with their quick-wit, perfect timing and hilarious humour. A newcomer to the Cornley ranks also joins the fray in Sasha Frost, who seamlessly slots in with the rest of the team, particularly with her magnificent "mouth acting".

No production is complete without it's immersive set, and Libby Todd does a terrific job in bringing all of the magic (and mayhem) of the show to life with some truly impressive moving parts and bold colourful scenery. Paired with clever costumes and comedic props, courtesy of Roberto Surace and ROC Props respectively, the world of Victorian England is brought to life, with a little sprinkle of Christmas chaos.

With twists and turns that keep you guessing, this is festive fun that is not to be missed this holiday season. We can hope that maybe one of these productions goes right one day, but whilst they’re still causing havoc, catch the Cornley Drama Society do what they do best this Christmas!
