The Hunger Games: On Stage
Set in the new purpose-built Troubadour Theatre in Canary Wharf, the production is admirably ambitious, with so many technical elements which ultimately end up distracting audiences from the poorly executed script.
Here & Now: The Steps Musical
Like any good jukebox musical, Here & Now hinges on its set-piece moments set against Steps’ biggest numbers but never veers into feeling contrived, and the supermarket’s threat of closure and Rebecca Lock’s likeable lead Caz ensure the story moves along at a steady pace.
Fawlty Towers: The Play
The play cleverly combines three of the most beloved episodes into one storyline. I won’t ruin the surprise, but I’ll give you a clue - whatever you do, you still mustn’t mention Ze War!
Choir of Man
Partnered with with mental health and suicide prevention charity Campaign Against Living Miserably (CALM), the show is a powerful and moving tribute to male friendship and vulnerability, with countless moments of uplifting joy and genuine pathos.
The Producers
Mel Brooks' magnificent musical still hits all the right notes in this laugh-a-minute revival. From hilarious one-liners to camp choreography, courtesy of Lorin Latarro, Patrick Marber's dazzling new production bursts at the seams with star quality on the upgraded larger stage of the Garrick Theatre.
Deaf Republic
For all its theatrical achievements, Deaf Republic warrants enormous praise for its successful promotion of deaf theatre and the importance of accessibility. The hearing audience is repeatedly challenged to consider how other productions could - and should - have been adapted to embrace and celebrate accessibility.
The Animator
The highlight was, without doubt, the silhouette animations themselves. Used for scene transitions, atmosphere, and storytelling, they were beautiful to watch and captured the spirit of Reiniger’s work perfectly.
